Gunpowder Wagon

I am indebted to Rik Bennett whose post on The Garden Railway Forum about his Gunpowder Wagon inspired me to
build mine. You can read about Rik's wagon on his blog here and also about The Peckforton Light Railway, his lovely line.

So, take one small wooden chest from 'The Works' retail outlet, cost £2.

Remove hinges and catch (save for future projects), glue top & bottom together with your wood glue of choice.
I used Evo-Stik Wood Adhesive. Then a little white puttey for filling and sand down.

Very basic stripwood chassis with Binnie axle boxes (£2) and I.P.Engineering wheel sets (£6.50). You could
easily use Binnie wheels & axles which would reduce the cost significantly. I just happened to have some
20mm I.P. wheel sets in the spares box.

Rivet detail, door latch & catches simply added using brass strip and a centre punch.
Next job is to etch prime the brass prior to final painting.

Well here is the finished article, not a bad piece of rolling stock that started with a £2 wooden box.
